Serverless web applications

Third-party services, client-side logic and functions as a service: what you gain and what you pay with a serverless web app.

A serverless web application rests on three pieces: third-party services, client-side logic and cloud-hosted functions as a service. There are no servers of your own to maintain; there are contracts between managed pieces.

What you gain

Flexible scaling

The CDN and the functions scale with traffic on their own. No capacity to provision up front.

No server management

No operating system to patch and no fleet to watch. The team focuses on the product.

No idle capacity

You pay for executions and storage, not for machines waiting for traffic.

High availability

Managed services come with availability and fault tolerance built in.

What you pay

Speed matters: every millisecond of load time changes how users perceive and use the product. In serverless that means watching cold starts, bundle sizes and the number of network hops between functions.

With this approach we later built Auna’s first digital transformation app: telehealth, appointments and prescriptions on Lambda, API Gateway WebSocket and DynamoDB.
